The Chief Deputy is appointed by the Sheriff and is responsible for managing all operational aspects of the agency, including budgets and personnel.
Chief Deputy Ken Flowers graduated from Greenville High School, Greenville, Alabama in 1970. He then obtained an Associate Degree from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, Andalusia, Alabama before attending Troy University in Montgomery. A graduate of Southwest Alabama Law Enforcement Academy, his law enforcement career began with the Greenville Police Department in 1973 where he worked in several capacities until being appointed Chief of Police in 1981. Chief Flowers also worked in several positions for the Butler County Sheriff's Office including Chief Deputy. He later left local law enforcement to work as a Deputy State Fire Marshal for the Alabama State Fire Marshal's Office. In 1988 he left the State Fire Marshal's Office to accept the position of Chief of Police for Childersburg and later Linveville, Alabama. In 1998 Chief Flowers was appointed Jail Administrator for the Talladega County Sheriff's Office. After serving as Jail Administrator for fourteen years, Chief Flowers was selected by the Sheriff for appointment to Chief Deputy in 2013.
